This is a question many people find themselves asking when they first hear about Aveda. What exactly IS Aveda, and why is there so much hype around this one brand? Well folks, we have some answers for you.
Aveda was founded by a man named Horst Rechelbacher after the Austrian born hairstylist landed in Minnesota after a car crash. He visited India and decided to incorporate the Indian practice of Ayurveda into both his lifestyle and career. Because of this, Aveda was born in 1978 with the idea that the beauty we find in ourselves is directly linked to the beauty found in the world around us.
Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. At Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.
All of Avedas ingredients are naturally derived, which means that more than 50% of the molecule comes from plants, non-petroleum mineral, water, or another natural source. They make sure that any ingredients used will benefit the client while also being kind to the environment. Additionally, the brand is cruelty-free, meaning that none of their products are tested on animals.
Aveda does an amazing amount of charity work! Some of their accomplishments include raising approx. $6.5million dollars a year to help find and provide clean water throughout the world, providing jobs for paper-workers in Nepal, donating over $3.9million to breast cancer research since 2001, and helping the Yawanawa tribe of Brazil become a thriving community.
Aveda products are all manufactured with 100% wind power. Additionally, 85% of all their products are packaged with 100% post consumer recycled materials, and all are recyclable.
